Nobel prize to Briton, Japanese for stem cell work

Goody Goody….its Nobel prize time again……one of the strangest times of the year. For those that are in the running for scientific awards, the Nobel is one of the highest honors one can achieve….Too bad that it has become a liberal outpost

So today the first award was announced….for Medicine

Nobel prize to Briton, Japanese for stem cell work

John Gurdon, the British recipient, was able to create tad poles from the skin cells of frogs. It seemed harmless enough. But the technology developed by Dr Gurdon led to the creation of Dolly…the first cloned animal.

Shinya Yamanaka is a Japanese biologist who has been able to turn mature cells (adult cells) into primitive cells. He has been praised by pro life forces because one application of his work is that embryonic stem cells can now be produced from mature cells, and no embryos need to be harmed. Great!

But, recently, other scientists in Japan have been able to turn skin cells in mice into eggs and produce baby mice……..

And scientists are already postulating that it can be replicated in the human. It could turn back the biological clock, make human cloning possible, or do things that are really the stuff of science fiction. A true Brave New World could be dawning, and the Nobel Committee is betting on it, in our time.

Servant of God Jerome LeJeune, pray for us!

About St. Anne Center for Reproductive Health

I am a board certified Reproductive Endocrinologist who practiced in the IVF world for 15 years. After seeing the damage that these treatments were causing couples and the complete commodification of life, fueled by a deeper understanding of my Roman Catholic faith, I left the field in 2010. I am currently praying for an end to the culture of death, and hoping to one day have the funding to open the St Anne Center for Reproductive Heath, to provide options for people with challenges to conceive with support and care to follow God's will.
