Infertility treatments may significantly increase multiple sclerosis activity

The list of conditions worsened, increased or caused by Assisted reproduction continues to grow. In a paper to be published in the journal Neurology, the researchers found that 75% of women with MS had worsening of their symptoms after IVF

Infertility treatments may significantly increase multiple sclerosis activity.

Multiple Sclerosis is an autoimmune disease which is known to improve in many who become pregnant, during their pregnancy. There can be exacerbations after the baby is born, but there is no worsening if one tries and does not succeed  in conception.

These are the type of things that get reported and, sometimes largely forgotten by those that treat infertile couples. It plays on the desperation of the couple to become pregnant or have a baby at all costs. Whatever the risks, there is an almost adolescent sense that “it won’t happen to me.”

Servant of God Jerome LeJeune, pray for us!

Jesus, I trust in you.

About St. Anne Center for Reproductive Health

I am a board certified Reproductive Endocrinologist who practiced in the IVF world for 15 years. After seeing the damage that these treatments were causing couples and the complete commodification of life, fueled by a deeper understanding of my Roman Catholic faith, I left the field in 2010. I am currently praying for an end to the culture of death, and hoping to one day have the funding to open the St Anne Center for Reproductive Heath, to provide options for people with challenges to conceive with support and care to follow God's will.
