IVF Babies with three parents

Ivf

I could not resist pasting this cover from a recent Daily Telegraph. Note that the picture of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge is window dressed with a Headline “IVF babies with three parents” The world seems to think that the couple is actively seeking to conceive (who really knows, though)…but maybe this is an idea…..

It appears that Britain is considering approving a procedure which will try to eradicate “diseases” but intermingling a third persons DNA into the couple attempting IVF. Rather than taking cells and testing them and the discarding the affected ones, this third person’s DNA will correct the defect and lead to a healthy baby.

Of course, this has major concerns that the British are looking are very carefully. Of course, this is very similar to the oversight that occurred before the first IVF baby. It could lead to the engineering of an entire blood line, that continues into multiple generations. And who know what implications that might be. The mitochondrial DNA of the human egg has been linked to several diseases, and might be a factor in egg aging. But we really don’t know how foreign DNA will interact with it.

It just seems to be another piece of the eugenics puzzle….for it’s applications could be widespread.

About St. Anne Center for Reproductive Health

I am a board certified Reproductive Endocrinologist who practiced in the IVF world for 15 years. After seeing the damage that these treatments were causing couples and the complete commodification of life, fueled by a deeper understanding of my Roman Catholic faith, I left the field in 2010. I am currently praying for an end to the culture of death, and hoping to one day have the funding to open the St Anne Center for Reproductive Heath, to provide options for people with challenges to conceive with support and care to follow God's will.
