NFP: Not Just Natural Birth Control

OK. Another subject I have been meaning to write about. NFP is a beautiful thing, and it helps married couples understand themselves and promotes temperance as well as periodic chastity. That is terrific. Where I quibble with is this idea of “planned” or “unplanned” pregnancy. This intimates that we are not following God’s will. to be trite, there is no “i” or “me” in God. Children are a gift from God, conceived out of the love of a man and woman for each other in cooperation with God.

Does this mean that I am promoting  that everyone have 10 children? No. But humans simply are not that efficient. We are not rabbits.

There is really no great or bad time for children. That is why it is a perfect environment for us to turn ourselves over to God’s will.

About Downers Grove OB/GYN

I am a board certified Reproductive Endocrinologist who practiced in the IVF world for 15 years. After seeing the damage that these treatments were causing couples and the complete commodification of life, fueled by a deeper understanding of my Roman Catholic faith, I left the field in 2010. I am currently praying for an end to the culture of death, and have opened the offices of Downers Grove OBGYN with my colleague Dr. Robert Lawler.

That’s a good point. For those who tend to get pregnant pretty easily, it can be tempting to think one can plan to get pregnant, but really, all you can do is not do anything to avoid getting pregnant.
